Is window film insulating?

Window film can be insulating depending on the window film you select. Luckily, 3M makes insulating window films such as the 3M Thinsulate Climate Control Series and 3M Insulating Series. These low-emissivity window films can improve the insulation of a single-pane window to match that of a double-pane, and a double-pane window to that of a triple pane. This provides for year-round insulation and energy savings.

3M Thinsulate Window Film

In the summer, the sun through the windows can cause interior temperatures to rise. On the other hand, in the winter, windows have difficulty retaining man made heat indoors. With the 3M Thinsulate Climate Control Series, homes and offices can enjoy improved insulation, leading to increased occupant comfort and energy savings year-round.

3M Thinsulate Window Film is a virtually clear film that is applied to the interiors of windows in homes and offices. It has the ability to reject the sun’s infrared heat in the hot summer months, while also protecting interiors from harmful UV rays that enter through the window. Not only can 3M Thinsulate Window Film improve indoor comfort in the heat of summer, but its insulating abilities can retain man made heat indoors in the winter. This film’s ability to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures year-round leads to improved energy efficiency, and in turn, lower energy bills. In fact, window film users see an average of 30% energy savings within the first few months of installation! In addition to lower energy costs, 3M Thinsulate Window Film can also add years to the life of heating and cooling systems.

3M Insulating Series

With the 3M Insulating Series, you’ll enjoy UV protection, glare reduction, and comfortable temperatures year-round from products like Low E 20 and Low E 35. Not to mention, there’s a potential payback period of just 3 years! The high heat rejection of these films keeps interiors cool in the summer, and their insulating abilities maintain comfortable indoor temperatures in the winter. In addition to its heat rejecting and insulating properties, Low E 20 and Low E 35 also provide protection against harmful UV rays, the leading cause of fading in furnishings. This series offers impeccable glare reduction, increasing both comfort and productivity of occupants at home and in the office. The end result is enhanced occupant comfort and increased UV protection, paired with lower energy bills no matter the season.
